What Counts as a Dental Emergency?

If any of these describe your situation, call us immediately at (903) 843-1010

Severe Toothache

Persistent, throbbing pain that won't go away with over-the-counter medication. Often signals infection or decay needing immediate attention.

Knocked-Out Tooth

Time is critical. Pick up the tooth by the crown, rinse gently, and try to place it back in the socket. Get to us within 30 minutes for the best chance of saving it.

Broken or Cracked Tooth

A break that exposes the inner tooth structure needs prompt treatment to prevent infection and further damage.

Uncontrolled Bleeding

Bleeding from the mouth that won't stop after 15 minutes of pressure. Could indicate serious tissue damage or a clotting issue.

Swelling or Abscess

Facial swelling, fever, or a pimple-like bump on your gums can indicate a serious infection that needs urgent drainage and antibiotics.

Jaw Injury

Difficulty opening or closing your mouth, pain when chewing, or visible misalignment after an impact. Get evaluated immediately.

  4. Use a cold compress to reduce swelling

4 Swelling or Abscess

  1. Do not try to drain or pop it
  2. Rinse with mild salt water several times
  3. Use a cold compress on the outside
  4. Take over-the-counter pain relief
  5. Call us immediately for antibiotics

Emergency Dental FAQs

Common questions about our emergency dental services

Yes. We accommodate same-day emergency appointments whenever possible. Call us at (903) 843-1010 and we'll get you in as quickly as we can.

Call our office number and follow the prompts for after-hours emergencies. For life-threatening emergencies (difficulty breathing, uncontrolled bleeding, jaw fracture), go to the nearest emergency room.

Costs vary depending on the treatment needed. We accept most dental insurance and offer payment plans. We'll always discuss costs with you before treatment begins.

Bring your insurance card, photo ID, a list of current medications, and any broken tooth pieces if applicable. If you're a new patient, arrive 10 minutes early for paperwork.

Some can, some can't. A knocked-out tooth needs treatment within 30 minutes. Severe infection with swelling or fever needs same-day care. A chipped tooth with no pain can usually wait a day or two. When in doubt, call us.
